2024 was a challenging year for so many people around the world. From devastating genocide in Gaza and conflicts in Lebanon, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ukraine to catastrophic flooding in Bangladesh and Nepal, communities around the globe have faced extraordinary hardship.

However, amidst the devastation, we cannot give up hope – and there is hope. People in Ireland have stood for justice, women’s rights and for positive change. Women’s rights organisations, supported by ActionAid around the world, have fought back against injustice and for their communities.

Thanks to you in 2024:

  • 464,338 people were reached directly with humanitarian relief in the occupied Palestinian territory
  • 13,061 women and girls reached through the Irish Aid-funded women’s rights programme to end gender-based violence and support women’s economic empowerment.
  • Eight local rights programmes in five countries supported from funds raised through Child Sponsorship. This included supporting 404 survivors of violence and funding 36 young farmers in agroecology in Amuru, Uganda.
  • We campaigned for an end to the genocide in Gaza and to pass the Occupied Territories Bill, for climate justice and an end to investment in fossil fuels, for better funding for women’s organisations, and we stood with migrant lone parents in Direct Provision in Ireland

Watch our online event

Last week we held an event with two inspirational speakers. Zamzam Hassan, Programme Coordinator, ActionAid Kenya, a survivor of FGM and now an amazing women’s rights activist and Riham Jafari, Communications & Advocacy Coordinator for ActionAid Palestine, a Palestinian women centrally involved in our work in both Gaza and the West Bank.

You can watch back and hear about some of the trailblazing work that you helped to support here.
