Severe flooding is devastating lives and livelihoods

Following torrential rains since mid-December, severe flooding is once again devastating lives and livelihoods in Mozambique. The government of Mozambique has declared an emergency in response to the flooding and has called for national and international support.

The flooding has affected over 643,300 people across central and southern Mozambique so far.

There was no time to save anything. We fled immediately and only took our children and nephews, says Felizarda Chaúque, Mozambique

“The water was coming very fast. The children were crying, they were cold and hungry. Our biggest fear was losing one of them along the way,” says Felizarda Chaúque who lives in the Matupo province.

Living conditions remain extremely difficult. “So many things are missing here. We need food, clothes, disposable items, especially for small children. There are babies here who have no nappies and no clothes to change into,” she lamented. Access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation continues to be a daily challenge.

Please support women like Felizarda and their families by donating now.
