What is happening in Nepal?
A catastrophic flood and landslide struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district on 26 August 2026 after a sudden and intense surge of water entered the Bhotekoshi river.Â
So far, more than 903 people have died and at least 4,247 remain missing. Approximately 317,000 people have been impacted and at least 40,000 people have been displaced. Entire communities have suffered massive infrastructure damage, with homes, markets, vehicles, and bridges swept away.Â
ActionAid’s team in Nepal is working alongside communities, women’s rights organisations and local partners to identify the most urgent needs and make sure help reaches the people who need it most.Â

What are the most urgent needs for Nepal?
ActionAid’s partner is already on the ground working with local authorities to initiate its response operation. Â
The most urgent needs right now are:Â
- Search and rescue and family tracing. Â
- Emergency shelter and essential non-food items. Â
- Food and safe drinking water; sanitation and hygiene support. Â
- Emergency medical care, referral and psychosocial support. Â
- Protection services, especially for women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

ActionAid in Nepal
ActionAid has worked in Nepal since 1982. In an emergency response, we work with local partners and women-led organisations who are supporting affected communities. These partners have a specific focus to ensure the needs of women and girls, along with people with disability and the elderly, are met.Â
ActionAid Nepal and partners are on the ground distributing emergency relief supplies to affected communities around Rasuwa, focusing on supporting people displaced by the floods. These include food parcels, blankets, and sleeping bags.
90% of your donation will go directly to our Nepal Floods Emergency Appeal.Â
10% of your donation will be retained for ActionAid’s Emergency Action Fund which will only be used for ensuring we are prepared and able to respond quickly and more effectively to future emergencies and crises.Â
