Families need stability not hostility - tell Minister O'Callaghan to support migrant families!

Community matters in Ireland. A home, people you trust, a place where children can flourish — these are essential for everyone, and they matter even more for those who have had to flee violence, conflict, or abuse to find safety here.
Right now, however, political leaders are undermining hard-won rights, blaming migrants for Ireland’s housing crisis, and making it harder for families with asylum to build a life. Evictions, racism, inadequate support, and school moves at short notice are leaving migrant children and parents uprooted just when stability matters most.
Pitting people against one another, or falsely conflating migration with homelessness, only deflects from real failures in housing policy and weakens solidarity within our communities.
We have a choice. Ireland can scapegoat migrants, or we can choose a better path: one that keeps families together, strengthens communities, and lets children live full lives. Politicians must fix the system — don’t blame migrants. And keep families in the communities they call home.
Petition:
Minister Jim O’Callaghan, stop forcing families with children out of the communities they are already part of. End transfers that uproot children from schools, services, and friendships, and support families to remain in their community while they find housing.
We’re asking the Minister for Justice and the Minister for Housing to:
- Put real transition supports in place for people leaving Direct Provision, rather than relying on schemes that do not work in practice.
- Raise the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) scheme limits so they reflect actual rents
- Tackle discrimination against HAP recipients in the private rental market.
- Develop a clear, properly resourced integration policy with housing at its core. Stable accommodation is the foundation for work, education and participation in community life.
