Haiti Emergency Appeal
On Saturday 14th August, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. Over 1,000 people have been confirmed dead, and even more are seriously injured. As volunteers and emergency services continuing to search for survivors, it’s expected that in the coming days and weeks, these numbers will continue to rise – it’s an unimaginable tragedy; the extent of which we are only just beginning to uncover.
This earthquake was higher in magnitude than the 2010 earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands of people, and aftershocks continue to be felt. The worst-affected areas are in the southern regions of the country – Jérémie and Les Cayes. There is significant damage to homes, roads and infrastructure. Women and girls were already bearing the brunt of the multiple crises facing Haiti, including Covid-19, rising hunger, political instability and gang violence. The fallout from this earthquake, could push many more families into poverty and hunger.
We urgently need your help in supporting the women and families who have lost so much in Haiti.
